Overview
2-Day Valgrande National Park Trekking
Join us on an immersive Valgrande National Park trekking adventure, located just above Domodossola near the stunning Lake Maggiore. This unique experience is incredibly accessible, situated only a 90-minute drive from Milan or one hour from Malpensa Airport.
Nature and Culture in Italy’s Largest Wilderness
The Valgrande National Park is famously known as the widest Italian wilderness area. While these mountains were once populated by hardy shepherds and woodcutters, the landscape has transformed significantly over the decades. Following the industrial revolution and the impact of two World Wars, these valleys near Lake Maggiore were suddenly abandoned in favor of more comfortable urban work.
Since then, time has stood still. Today, you can witness the haunting beauty of “frozen” villages where nature has reclaimed its rightful home, offering a rare blend of culture and silent history.
Authentic Wilderness Backpacking and Bivouac Sleeping
During this short but intense guided trekking tour, you will experience the true spirit of wilderness backpacking. You will spend one night bivouac sleeping in a rustic mountain shelter. This is a basic, authentic accommodation where you will sleep on a wooden floor in the upper loft, requiring you to bring a sleeping bag and mattress. It is a full-immersion experience designed to put you in direct contact with the raw, untouched nature of the park.
Breathtaking Alpine Scenery and Lonely Paths
This route follows the most scenic ridges of the National Park, offering unparalleled alpine scenery. You will enjoy panoramic views of the Ossolan peaks—including the Devero, Formazza, and Vigezzo valleys—and a privileged vantage point of several Swiss 4000-meter giants.
As we navigate this not crowded landscape, we will:
-
Trek through solitary high-altitude pastures.
-
Summit a peak with a 360-degree mountain panorama.
-
Discover ancient “stairways to the sky” carved directly into the rock by ancient herders.
