This refers to the vertical distance you walk each day of trekking. If you don’t have clear the distance, we can roughly compare: 100 m of elevation gain can correspond to approximately 25 floors of stairs in a building. Don’t be scared by these numbers, the paths, except for a few, are never steep and constant like the stairs of a building. You should consider that this elevation is spread in the distance and time we will walk. (usually during one day)
Examples:
600 m elev. gain in 10 Km spread in one day is not a steep path and unless you are lazy you can manage it!
instead
1.000 m elev. gain in 4 – 5 Km is very steep and you need to be fit
A hike tends to be on trails through mountains or trails through bush or country terrain. Trails are usually visible paths, but terrain and trails are rougher and sometimes rocky. There may be some steep trails and it is important to read the features in each proposal. Hiking generally involves walking up and down rough terrain so you need to be in general in a good shape and fit.
A walk tends to be done on defined paths and reasonably smooth surfaces without too many obstacles in the way. Walking tends to not require any special equipment, other than a day pack with the essentials. Walks are shorter and can be enjoyed by any age group with relative fitness.
All our proposals for hiking and multy-day treks require physical effort. Some are easy and suitable for most people, others are recommended for people with training and hiking experience. For all the proposals, however, you must be in good health and not come from long periods of sedentary living.
If you don’t know very well your fitness status, call us or choose easy one-day hike.
Hotels: These are accommodation facilities with rooms (double or twin) with private bathroom. They are the most comfortable and are usually found in towns or cities.
Mountain Huts: These are mountain accommodation facilities often located in natural areas and far from roads and towns. They are equipped with multiple rooms, dormitories (usually 4 to 10 people per room) with a shared bathroom. Showers are often paid for and sometimes they are not present. They are simple but usually welcoming structures where you can experience the true atmosphere of going to the mountains! In the shelters you will find mattresses and blankets but you will need to have a sleeping bag.
Bivouacs: These are mountain accommodation facilities located in remote areas. They are often small huts or metal structures with very small and simple capacity (4 – 8 beds). They are usually free but a donation is required, there are no toilets and they do not have heating and food. They are usually equipped with a mattress and blankets, some only have mattresses. It is preferable to bring your own sleeping bag. They cannot be booked, therefore there is no guarantee of finding a free place inside.
In mountain huts, bathroom is always shared with all guests. Showers are usually available under extra payment. Sometime there is not hot water.
In mountain huts you will find beds with mattress, wool blanket, bed pillow. You need to bring your own lining sleeping bag sheet. If you don’t have it you can buy disposable sleeping bag sheet in refuge.
We suggest always bringing some food (you need to be on site with food already purchased) such as: a sandwich, a fruit or dried fruit and a litre of water.
The booking process is easy! For each proposal you need to click on “Check availability” and choose the active dates on the calendar. The system then will ask you to choose: number of participants and related options (if present). By confirming the choices you proceed to fill out the booking form and pay the deposit.
For most of the proposals at the time of booking a deposit is required. The deposit is essential for us to be able to confirm the date and to better organize the day or the trek.
We normally give you the option to cancel your booking but we need a few days’ notice for one-day hike and a few weeks’ notice for multi-day treks. This gives us the possibility to try to recover the lost days. After the indicated cancellation terms, it is not possible to refund the deposit and/or balance for multi-day treks. This is a guarantee of our work. Our business does not only involve going out to the mountains but also a lot of back-office work to organize, study and book the facilities and services. A cancellation for us is time and money wasted. The cancellation charges represent an advance estimate of our loss relating to services, costs and taxes incurred and are necessary to protect our legitimate business interests.
The proposal includes the car trip with the guide from Milan. Therefore, the travel cost of the guide is included in the price you pay. The cost must be paid even if you do not take advantage of the car ride as the guide has to travel. By leaving Milan with your guide, you have the opportunity to travel at a truly advantageous cost and without time restrictions with means of transport.
In case there is only one person on the chosen date, the hike is confirmed with a little price increase to cover travel expenses and guide fee compensation.
