Walking tends to not require any special equipment, other than a day pack with the essentials. Walks are shorter and can be enjoyed by any age group with relative fitness.

Day 01 :

Let's get to know Alpe Devero

Transfer in the morning to Alpe Devero (from Milan or Malpensa airport). Accommodation and visit of the marvellous Devero.

Day 02 :

The Golden Pastures of Alpe Sangiatto and its alpine lake

Our first hike takes us deep into the heart of high-altitude farming at Alpe Sangiatto. In these pristine pastures, shepherds produce the world-famous Bettelmatt cheese. Together, we will discover the secrets of its traditional production, learning how the local alpine herbs and flowers give this cheese its unique, prized flavor. For our descent, we will follow a scenic alternative trail toward the charming village of Crampiolo. This tiny, cozy settlement is the perfect spot for a traditional “merenda”—the classic Italian afternoon snack—where you can relax and taste an array of local artisanal cheeses (not included).

Day 03 :

Exploring the Buscagna Valley and Black Lake

We will journey through the magnificent Buscagna Valley, located in the western reaches of Alpe Devero. This trail winds through stunning mountain pastures and alongside crystal-clear alpine streams. Our destination is a secluded, hidden lake, where you will be rewarded with a breathtaking panorama of the majestic Cervandone peak.

Day 04 :

The Enchanting Alpine Lakes of Devero

We will spend the day exploring the breathtaking alpine lakes of the region. First, we visit Witches Lake (Lago delle Streghe), a place steeped in local legend and mystery. From there, we continue to Devero Lake, a magnificent example of how a hydroelectric basin can be perfectly integrated into the natural landscape. With the dramatic silhouette of Arbola Peak reflecting in the water, the surrounding panorama truly feels like a piece of the Canadian wilderness in the heart of the Italian Alps.

How many days in advance we should arrive?

We suggest arriving in Milan, or Malpensa the day before trekking start. This is the best solution to be ready in the morning for leaving Milan or Malpensa. You can choose also to arrive directly to Domodossola (trains from Milan), there will be a very little transfer and you can have more time in the morning to get ready. If you need information for public transport feel free to contact us.

How fit do I need to be to do this trek?

This trek requires a medium-low physical effort, it is necessary to be in good health and not sedentary. Practicing little sport is suitable. Little training a couple of month before trekking is suggested.

How long do we walk every day?

On average, you will walk about 3 to 4 hours per day. You should consider that the estimated walking time don’t consider stops or lunch break. During the day we will have some break to take pictures, guide will tell you about nature, time for eating and drinking, etc….

What does Elevation Gain mean?

This refers to the vertical distance you walk each day of trekking. If you don’t have clear the distance, we can roughly compare: 100 m of elevation gain can correspond to approximately 25 floors of stairs in a building. Don’t be scared by these numbers, the paths, except for a few, are never steep and constant like the stairs of a building. You should consider that this elevation is spread in the distance and time we will walk. (usually during one day)

Examples:
400 m elev. gain in 10 Km spread in one day is not a steep path and unless you are lazy you can manage it!

800 or 1.000 m elev. gain in 4 – 8 Km is very steep and you need to be fit

What about food and water

We suggest always bringing some personal snack food such as: dried fruit, energy bars and a litre of water. You can fill the water at the fountains, you can buy extra food in the hotel

What about the car trip?

The proposal includes the car trip with the guide from Milan. Therefore, the travel cost of the guide is included in the price you pay. The cost must be paid even if you do not take advantage of the car ride as the guide has to travel. By leaving Milan with your guide, you have the opportunity to travel at a truly advantageous cost and without time restrictions with means of transport
