LOMBARDY

Come and discover the mountains of Lombardy!

Lombardy is the most populated region in Italy. Milan, its "capital", located at the center of the region is the hub of trade and productive activities. The northern part of the region is dominated by the Alps. A few kilometers far from the big cities and airports there are the alpine valleys where you can go hiking all year round! The airports of Malpensa and Bergamo (Orio al Serio) are very close to the Alps and you can reach the mountains even in a single weekend if you can organize your flights booking.

All seasons are good for discovering the mountains in Lombardy!

In summer you can have fantastic trekking in the granite massif of Masino Bregaglia with the elegant Pizzo Badile 3.308 m, or go trekking in the beautiful and panoramic Valmalenco with Piz Bernina and its glaciers. In the easter part of Lombardy you can hike in the Adamello valleys with the largest glacier in Italy and where the traces of the First World War are still visible. Between Valtellina and Bergamo, not so far from Milan you can enjoy the Orobie mountains rich in lakes.

The pre-alps of Lecco and Como, very close to Milan, are great for day hike or multy-day trekking during spring and autumn.

In winter snowshoeing in the alps is a must, but you can also go trekking close to the lakes thanks to mild winter climate!

Many hiking routes await you in Lombardy and can be tailored according to your needs and level of fitness, contact me and together we will "build" your trekking or your day hike!

The most beautiful alpine valleys for trekking and hiking are:

  • GEOGRAPHY AND GEOLOGY

In Lombardy mountains are in the middle of the Insubric line. South of this line we find the Dolomitic limestone of Grigne and Pre-alps, North of the line we find the siliceous rocks with the great granites of Masino-Bregaglia and Adamello together with the Gniess and the Serpentini of Bernina. An alpine region of great geological diversity. The great lakes such as Lake Como and Lake Garda complete the complex and interesting geomorphology of this wonderful alpine territory shaped by the ancient glaciers. There is more! in Lombardy the Apennines with the rolling hills and vineyards of Oltrepò Pavese offers us interesting views of an area with a great landscape. A little Tuscan in Lombardy!
  • NATURE

Valtellina, Orobie and Adamello with their variety of soils offer a large amount of floral species. In the alpine area f Lombardy we will find a unique biodiversity. Many are the typical animal species of the Alps, the chamois and marmots, present on all the mountains, are the most easy to sight species. In the high altitude and in Orobie Mountains the ibex is very common. Recently cominig from the Trentino valleys the bears have appeared while from the Appenines wolves have become more common.
  • SCENARIOS AND PANORAMA

The Alps and Pre-alps in Lombardy are a real set for photography lovers. The beautiful views of the great pre-alpine lakes and the Alps on background will be the ideal place for taking landscape photograph in spring. Mountains of Valmalenco with the Bernina glaciers and the green pastures are the places of summer and autumn. In winter you will enjoy the snowy alpine landscapes. Moreover it will be pleasant to walk among vineyards and mountains in Oltrepò during autumn and spring seasons.
