LAGO NERO AND LAGO KASTEL IN FORMAZZA VALLEY

Nice hike around alpine lakes and flowers
On a hot july Sunday we went to Val Formazza, a valley located in northern Piedmont. Today I am taking a nice group of people for a beautiful hike. Today we will go to discovery a small alpine lake located at the foot of Mount Basodino 3.273 m which is on the border of Canton Ticino (Tessin) in Switzerland.
We leave the cars at the large parking of the Toce Waterfall, this waterfall is one of the most beautiful in Piedmont and deserves a small visit before starting our hike.
After visiting the waterfall we start to walk along a narrow and steep path climbing up in the pastures.
We reach the beautiful mountain pasture of Ghigel and finally we are in the sun. The panorama from this nice meadow is beautiful and we can admire the upper Val Formazza with its wonderful peaks.
We walk along the mountainside among beautiful blooms. In this area of the valley there are several species of flowers and July is the ideal month to discover and get to know them. If you love photography, this trekking will give you a lot of satisfaction because you can admire scenic views, flowers, lakes, rocks and glaciers.
After the long traverse trail we climb up along a more rocky path and we pass near a beautiful waterfall.
We reach the beautiful Lago Nero (black lake). It is midday and we can take a little rest admiring the view.
After a short lunch in the lakeshore we go down the same path. Since it is not very late, I decide to extend the hike passing through the bright blue Kastel Lake from where we have a priceless view towards Punta d’Arbola.
Now it is time to descent to the valley bottom! we all need a good beer to celebrate the beautiful day!
